Any Mechanics around the Santa Rosa or bay area? Ive contacted some of the ones listed but since some numbers dont work I was hoping there might be new shops or skilled members. I need a timing belt and water pump done on a 2000 golf TDI with 400,000 miles I just purchased because it's history is unknown. JSC Auto volkswagon quoted $1100 and Precision MotorWerks quoted $990. Im also open to having a TDI club member do it that has the right tools and experience.

Contact Matt in San Anselmo. He is an honest guy and a one man show. Only really works on TDIs. He prefers contact via E mail. matt.gtr@gmail.com.

My daughter is living in Orlando and her mechanic (Me!) is up in Pennsylvania. Its a terrible feeling when your daughter calls because her VW is broken down and you're 1500 miles away. I used the "Trusted TDI Mechanic" list on here to find Shannon of Full Throttle of Orlando and she is in good hands. Her car is not a diesel, but a trusted mechanic is a trusted mechanic! Wanted to give a good referral to Shannon and the guys at Full Throttle of Orlando for taking care of my daughter.

I've tried to send my daughter to trusted mechanics in the South Bend, In area but none will return her calls. Since the dealer is a half block from their store, it makes sense to give them any necessary business.

Many of the best mechanics have a casual relationship with modern communications, keep trying.
If you do decide to go to a dealer, do some general research. It's almost unfathomable just how bad some of them are.
Depending on what you need done, you may not need a TDI specialist.
The Car Talk guys used to keep a decent list, maybe they still do.

The dealer in South Bend has some negative comments on here, but it's better than no returned emails or phone calls. Her's is a gasser so not quite as picky.

Please update the name and address of European Service Werks in Memphis TN on this link. They spell their name Werks, not Works. They have also moved to 6079 Resources Rd, Memphis 38134. Thank goodness their phone number remained the same. They have been at this new address for the past few years. They indeed are very knowledgeable and capable on TDI engines. I drove over 200 miles to get them to work on my 2001 Jetta. Very nice folks

Hes one of the last in Quebec doing Aircooled and Watercool, diesel/gas
You cant miss the garage: westfalia aircooled, eurovan, Jetta tdi wagon. Also he own one of the last new vw jetta wagon tdi (2016?) vw sold before the dieselgate.
Hes a true passionnate, the only drawback its the wait in line. But he always accomodate emergency, like travelers far from their homeland stuck with a broken westfalia. dont bring him a Toyota or a Ford, he only do Volkswagen or Porsche, Audi maybe

loss of power black smoke excessive fuel consumption.

I have a 02 beetle with the 1.9 tdi. i just returned from a 200 mile trip and it ran great. It has 260 k on it. when I bought it a few weeks ago the previous owner had ran it out of fuel. I got it primed and it ran great after that. after my trip i went out the next day and it started fine. when I got on the road the check engine light came on and it had a loss of power. mash on the gas and blows lots of black smoke and surge like it is running out of fuel. took it 3 places to see what the codes are and cannot find a scanner that will read the ecm. any ideas?

You need to find someone with a VCDS-VAG-COM to read the VW codes. Most generic reads won't get the codes right. Check out this tread to find someone close to you.

As a possible quick fix, try replacing the fuel filter and checking for junk in the fuel sender pump.

Jason in Port Jervis did some work for me on my Jetta TDI some years back. Is he still around or who might be in NE Pennsylvania or Northern NJ?

Can't find Guru for 120K

Guys I have tried to call the only person I know Daniel but can't get a phone call returned. I will be in need of a 120K service on a 2013 Passat SE soon and need some help as I am in SC and zip is 29690 and can not find anyone else near me and do not want to take it to the dealer. I have had work in the past and paid what was wanted always on time. Don't know what is going on???????????????
