OK , I read a bunch of tread on this and I am still confused at which oil cooler coolant hose I am to cut to install my 8000 series ( 1500 watts ) heater that I got from Canadian tire. In this write up he put it inline on the oil cooler lower hose ( closest to the rad )http://pics.tdiclub.com/data/517/ZER...STALLATION.pdf

But in this tread the coolant heater is installed it the oil cooler top hose ( closest to the motor )
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread...=195368&page=3

Which install is right ???

Which coolant line is the oil cooler inlet hose , top one which is closest to the motor OR the lower one which is closest to the Rad. ???

Thanks for any help with this

On my ALH engines when I did my self install kit it's the lower hose on the oil cooler/exchanger that goes to the heater unit.
Make sure that the outlet hose goes continually gradually inclined upwards. Important for it to work correctly.

OK , thanks, just got this 2004 tdi and it had a small factory ( dealer ) 550watt heater and it was burnt out, the install is the same as my other 2004 & 2006 jetta TDI, it was cut in on the top oil cooler coolant line ( closest to the motor )
So I changed out the small 550 watt heater for a much bigger 1500w heater, and installed it on the same top oil cooler coolant line, but it does not want to circulate into the motor.

So I may move it to the lower oil cooler coolant line, this way as i see it the coolant heater out let would be going to the cylinder head, were the coolant glow plugs are, DO YOU THINK THIS WAY WILL WORK BETTER ???

Heres the link were a guy installed the same 8000 coolant heater and he installed it on the lower coolant line and the outlet goes to the head .
