Scranton is about an hour from a top TDI specialist, Mike Hevner.

This is the URL for his shop: http://www.mmautocycle.com/

This is a long thread with comments from TDI Club members about his work: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=331284

I live a lot farther from his shop than Scranton is, and always take my cars to him. I have not been able to persuade him to move to within 15 minutes of me, but that would be wonderful. He also provides appropriate adult day care for me while he and his colleagues work on my cars.

The TDI Club web site is very rich, with many ways to find good specialists. It took me a while to browse around and become familiar with all its resources, but it's been well worth it.

Found a closer mechanic

Yesterday my mechanic (not for diesels) told me about another local mechanic who does diesels - I stopped to see him, seems he drives an 06 Jetta. I'm going to give him a try....he said it could be anything from water in the filter to a bad glow plug. I have an appointment Friday.....

He has a good rep locally - hoping it holds true....

I know its been a few years since this was posted, but how did things turn out for you? I am in the Scranton area, looking to find someone reliable who knows these cars and can work on them.

Plains PA Mechanic

Chucks Auto in Plains.....

The good - he specializes in VW diesels an is fair with pricing

The bad - couln't accept that I felt my 2001 Jetta was worth repairing, wouldnt give me an estimate as he felt there was to much wrong with it..... I took it to Gemini in State College - this mechanic also warned me several times that the car might night be worth repairing.

I always fellt it was....there were 3 major and one minor issues..... $2000.00 later? My beloved jetta runs like new. He checked it out thoroughly and the only issue is a strut with a bit of wear.....

My thoughts were this:
1 I LOVE my jetta
2 It only has 156K on it and looks grat (exept a minor ding where a friend backed into it)
3 I couln't buy another car with known history for 2K
4 Unless VW changes their policy? I won't find another diesel jetta
