1998 TDI into a Toyota Pickup

Hello everyone. I'm thinking of dropping a TDI into my 1986 toyota pickup. I've got a lead on a 1998 TDI jetta that was wrecked for a $1000. The guy says the motor spins freely but can't hear it run cause the fuel tank was removed. The car has been sitting since 2005.

Anything in particular I should look for when I go to check it out?

Well you could bring a small can of diesel and run a hose to the pump to try it out. Check and see if the timing belt is intact. I would pull the valve cover at the very least and look for evidence of water/rust. But at that price its pretty much worth it no matter what.

Why not get a Toy diesel?

Toyota diesel scarce as hen's teeth.
