Key Fob battery needs replacement?

2015 GSW S 6sp [was 2013 Passat TDI 6sp & was 2002 Golf]
So I have less than 500 miles on my new to me 2015 GSW S and the dash light came on that my key battery needs to be replaced.

I guess I need to go through the hassle of setting an appointment with the local dealer?

Kind of annoying.

Is there something physically preventing you from doing this yourself?

It takes less than 10 seconds to replace the batteries.

The instructions are on pg 47 of your owners manual.

Well I do have stubby fingers. ;)

I have never done this before. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Flop the key open and twist a coin in the slot where the key was, this pops the cover off.
May as well ask the dealer for new battery, it is a new car after all.

Batteries do not last very long. I had to replace them in both remotes before the car was one year old. Bought 10 on ebay or amazon for spares and keep one in the glove box. I do not go to the dealer as it 30 miles away and they are very slow.

FWIW mine had this message when i took delivery of my leftover 2015 last month. My service advisor told me yesterday that they will replace it under warranty if its within 6 months of the in service date.

Replaced mine at 20k miles I believe. Currently still going after 40k more miles and one year later. Amazon to get a bulk buy for cheap, and you're set.

a 2 pack at Walmart is $4. about 30 seconds to change one. Not a big deal.

Key fob battery

Ours died at 4 weeks old. They are easy to replace, the manual shows you how, and the size is 2025.

Got the same message on mine when I went on to the dealership. They're replacing both batteries when I pick it up tomorrow afternoon.
