I have to replace a bent knuckle assembly on my driver side front, and wondered if anyone has the torque settings and procedure for the 24MM 12 pt axle bolt for reassembly.
Thanks!

I believe that I have found the answer:
24mm 12 point axle bolt - 52 ft lbs. Then, once car is on ground, +90 degree turn.

So I picked up a new bolt today at the stealership (these are all single use bolts, apparently). The mechanic was insistent that it's a +180 degree turn on the bolt once it's on the ground. I'll probably go with the 1/2 turn.

There are two types of bolts (three if you count the cheap aftermarket version). One has ribs on the underside of the head where it contacts the hub and the other is smooth. The smooth style is the newer one and the only one available as a replacement part. It has a higher initial tightening torque and then the 1/2 turn as the tech mentioned. The last time I put one in I felt like either the bolt, my 3/4" breaker bar, or my arms would break before I got the 1/2 turn.

I made a picture...

70 Nm = 52 ft*lb
200 Nm = 148 ft*lb

The specs come from a 2013 VW Quick Reference Book

There's a 4th type on my 2006 Jetta; it's the 6-pt hex head 27mm P/N: n910 406 01, 180Nm + 180deg. I'm assuming these were on the MK V's

hehehe, 180 degrees is spec and he'll go with a half a turn.

Surely, you must be joking right?

yeah, sounds like he was compromising from the spec and just went with half a turn. I went to the store to buy eggs didn't need a half dozen so i just bought 6.
