Are there any known problems with temperature guages on B5 Passats? I have a 1999 110 TDi with 93k miles and up until now the temperature guage has always remained at a steady 90 degrees C once warmed through. However in the last week it struggles to a point just halfway between cold and 90C. This occurs even when trundling down the motorway at 90 mph!
is it the guage itself or a thermostat issue?

All help gratefully appreciated.......

Sounds like thermostat is stuck open..then again it could be the temp sender that's at fault.

Also, I find it hard to connect the term "trundle" with 90mph! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I trundle along at 85-90 mph quite often and my temperature gauge is stuck on 90 degrees. The clear diagnostic tool for your problem is VagCom. You can either go to www.ross-tech.com and buy it for yourself, or you can click on the Hypertext link in the middle of the top of the page called Vag-Com List and find someone close to you. If you were in Minnesota USA you would find me there as one of the many helpful VagCom owners.
