Hello,
I currently own a 2002 Jetta Tdi with 189,000km and I'm looking for something newer. I just purchased an 04 Tdi with 89,000 Km. I have A LOT of questions! PLEASE guide me!

Firstly, My 02 speedometer maxes out at 220km/h and the 04 says 260km/h on the speedo. The 04 is faster too! But they're the same body style. What did VW Do? Am I get the best engine in the MK4 model? How can I find out?

Secondly, I have a stage3 turbo, the Hammerhead from bleachedbora I think its a VNT-17 on my 02. Please someone tell me it will work on my 04!!

TO answer the big question the two engines are different. The turbo needs a smart actuator to work on the newer car I am pretty sure. With that big turbo on the 2002 and some injectors and tuning you should be able to easily pass the 2004, unless something is not setup right. In terms of the speedo, they both have a same top speed from what I know unless you get tunned. In terms of reliability, well the general consensuses here I think is that the 2002 is more bullet proof engine then the 2004.

I'm buying this 2004 for $13,800 Canadian. It's Fair Market Value is $18-$20K. It's a great deal. BUT modification wise....now I know that stock, the 2004 is much more responsive than my 02, but when I do aftermarket mods like bigger turbos and injectors, etc....which will be more powerful?

Fair market Value is up for interpretation. I got my wifes 2004 Passat TDi with a little more mileage, but got it for $12,500 from a VW dealer in Medicinehat. That was a year ago, you can find your 2004 Jetta anywhere from $10,000-20,000 depending on km's and owner desperation. Do you know the history of the car? What oil was used from start, Dealer serviced does not mean it was done right.
Did you tune your 2002? If not putting a big turbo with no tune, thats why your car is not as responsive as the smaller turbo 2004.

My car has is from eastern canada, and has a ton of rust, but not on the body yet. It has 190,000KM!! Give it a few more yrs and the body will rust. Im sure all the screws and underneath my car is disgusting. On the other hand, I did a carproof and carfax on the 2004 and its a clean title. No accidents and it's a local car with no rust! Its also been undercoated from the factory!
I understand that my car isn't tuned properly yet but when properly modded, which vehicle will get more power?
