Balance shaft

I have bought my first TDI and know nothing about them. I noticed balance shaft issues seem to be causing quite a stir.

Does my September( New Model ) 2005 Passat SE105 TDI have balance shafts

Is your car from North America?

The balance shaft assembly problem is particular to the north americian B5.5 TDI's available here in 2004.5 and 2005 with engine code BHW.

If you know your engine code (i think it's on the sticker in the spare tire well), someone more knowledgeable than me could confirm it for certain.

If by Sligo, you mean Sligo County, Ireland, then it is highly unlikely that you have a 2.0 ltr PD motor with the engine code BHW and an automatic transmission. The BHW/auto tranny was the only engine tranny combo available in North America and it was, unfortunately, the only motor to use a chain driven balance shaft assembly. If you are indeed outside North America, you probably have a 1.9l motor.

Welcome aboard Jimmy. Yes you have chain driven OP, but it has no BSM. What's your engine code?
