Is anyone else working on proposals for the 09 Fest, or do we win by default?
WIN? There will be times that WIN stands for What did I do Now?

Trust me, I know it! I must be in the severe stages of diesel addiction. Nothing else can explain why I decided to take this on knowing full well that my current schedule is already hectic. Spring and summer should settle down a bit, and I think our group is going to be able to find quite a bit of time dedicate to Fest, should we be chosen. :)

Sorry guys, the last few days have been too hectic to look at anything, let alone give this a thorough look over.. This is the first moment I've been able to get online in since Tuesday morning, therefore I'm delaying the final answer/announcement until Monday morning, November 10th.

Hope you guys can survive the weekend and sorry for the delay.

Fred

You drive a tough bargain Fred. I think you just want to make us suffer!
But then, .... good things to those who (can) wait!
Good luck VeeDubTDI!

I'll bite. What happens at a tdi Fest?

LOL... A picture is worth a thousand words. This rave scene from 'The Matrix' is an understatement, especially after Tomo left...

Of course, you occasionally get a drunk gutz that gets kicked out of parties, too. :p

Does this [above] sum up the events/program at the tdi Fest?

I didn't have much luck finding substantive reasons to attend. Hopefully I missed them...

No, that is more what happens after your regularly scheduled TDIFest events happen.

TDIFest is a place to:
*learn more about how & Why your motor works the way it does.
*What can and does go wrong when you try to mod a car too much
*What tools to use to work on your car properly
*How to Hypermile
*have a Car show, Awards Banquet, and Raffle
*Support your Favorite TDIClub Parts Vendors
*Learn how Greasecar does its thing.
*Get a chiptune in the Raffle :D
*Put Faces to all of these blank names on the screen you see every day
*Meet back up with old friends and hang out all night (See above photograph)

Trust me, TDIFest is a great place to be. and it is only Once a year.

That's a good way to sum it all up.

Also, the event has been attended by Volkswagen in the past. Last year they brought several 2009 TDIs for test drives. We're hoping for something similar this year.

Thanks for the information. I would be tempted to participate if it were anywhere but the D C metropolitan area. I spent 28+ years there and had enough of the area. Mebee next year.

That's my understanding. It appears that the event will be in Northern Virginia, aka the D C metropolitan area.

So what's your point???
The Dulles Corridor is quite a ways from DC
You are correct. IAD is about 25 miles as the crow flies from the U S Capitol. Since the area is heavily developed, I consider it part of the D C metropolitan area. I also consider Kensington to be within the D C metropolitan area.

My point is that I don't relish the thought of spending time in the D C area. Been there. Done that, and if it isn't absolutely necessary don't intend to do it again. It's jut me. Others like the place...

I consider outside the Beltway to be outside of DC........
When I go to the FEST (all except 1) I stay close to the FEST activities.......
Sorry you won't be here.......you will miss agood time!!

I feel sure the event will be nice but I will wait 'till next year to participate.

Not to quibble too much but everything outside the border of the District is outside D C. :) I lived in Alexandria, Fairfax, Annandale and Springfield and considered them all to be within the D C metropolitan area. The metropolitan Area Transit Authority agrees with me...

If it's DC you don't care for, I can accept that. I have similar feelings against some cities, but that's beside the point.
If however, it's "metropolitan areas" in general you don't care for, be aware that the fests are often held near major population concentrations. Salt Lake City, Philadelphia, Boston, Montreal, Toronto have been sites of past festivals.

Sometimes the term "densly populated area" seems to mean that an area is overpopulated with dense people.

Sorry. I thought I made myself clear at the outset. I spent 28 1/2 years in the D C metropolitan area and consider that more than enough.

Your statement about prior event locations raised a couple questions. How many typically attend, including vendors? If we are talking about thousands, I guess it makes sense from the standpoint of logistics to domicile them in metropolitan areas. If we are talking about a few hundred, there are many more options including resorts, etc. I would think that most people drive to the events. If so, proximity to commercial airports is of little importance. If there are driving events as part of the program, some of the nicest and most readily available race courses are not in metro areas.

Some would say that the D C metropolitan area fits your description, "Sometimes the term "densly populated area" seems to mean that an area is overpopulated with dense people." :)
