So as the title implies, I’m going to be doing an engine swap I’m my 1954 dodge pickup. I’ve already swapped the body into a 2000 s10 Frame. My question is which transmission is ideal in the rear wheel drive application? I drive mostly highway so mileage is key but I don’t want it to be a dog when I take off. Any ideas?

I plan to swap the rear end for one from a Ford Explorer for needed width. I haven’t yet decided on a transmission or gear ratio because I am not sure what I can use for a trans.

And secondly, I’m curious what type of fuel system do I need? Can i use the s10 fuel tank, pump and sender?

Fuel tank dosnt matter. Sending unit in tank must match the fuel gauge(ohms). The s10 tank will probably fit easiest.

As for tranny/gearing what motor are you using? You want 5 speed or automatic? 5 speed is easiest.

The nv3500 that came in the s10 would work well with most tdi conversions.

As for gearing, figure out your desired tire size and aim for high way cruising rpm ro be around 2600 to 2800 rpms @75 mph.
