I am in NB for the week on vacation. My TDI will need a TB job in 30,000km and I am wondering if I should get it done here at Gunther's. His price of $600 + tx is very reasonable and he seems to have a lot of knowledge and experience. Just wondering if you guys can chime in on his work.

The two biggest concern I have is:
1. TB job fails = costly costly repair
2. TB fails during my 1600km trip home = costly costly tow + repair.

What do you guys thing?

I think you have to remember that the TB needs doing when it needs doing - don't get hung up on an actual mileage count... if it's relatively close to needing doing, I'd certainly get it done just to be safe.
Concerns 1&2 are both very valid!

Good points, but he has 30,000 km left on that TB. Thats 20% left on a 160,000km TB, or 30% on a 100,000km TB. I would wait until you get home and go to your trusted guru (do you have a trusted guru?). The guy in Freddy may do it for $600, but is he skipping any parts? Using VCDS? using the correct tools?

And what happens if it fails on the way home...

30,000km can be 3 months of driving or another year or two...not really enough info to give you the better answer.
