I have a coolant leak that appears to be around head / coolant plastic flange. The engine cover also bolts to the end of flange.
THis flange has the fan temp sensor and two or three hoses connected to it and it is under the cover.

Well I have 70 K and someone must of had this probl;em

I had a similar problem on my '89 Jetta (1.8l gas car). A coolant leak developed in the black plastic neck that bolted to the head (had two temp sensors in it and accepted a hose from somewhere, don't remember and car is long gone). Well, the neck developed a small crack and had to be replaced.

If that is your dilemma, make sure to get all of the o-rings needed to properly seal everything (three in my case) the first time. Good luck.

we all need to remember the o-rings as in the hip bone connected to thigh bone. When you see a part you don't realize that it "plugs" into some other hose.

Thanks for the heads up on 0-rings!!

The first thing I had to do when I bought my 97 Passat(95k miles) was change the water pump and coolant flange.

Coolant Flange 028-121-132-A
Temp Sender O-ring N-903-168-02

The coolant flange O-ring came with it.
