A very nice lady that I know owns a 2011 JSW TDI DSG. In fact it's the car that I looked over several months before I bought my 2013. Well to cut to the chase after the 36000 of free maintenance was up it came time for the 40,000 mile maintenance. She took it to a Firestone dealer who had done the maintenance on her previous Lexus. I told her about my concerns and recommended this forum and the nearest recommended Guru.

Personally, I'd go with the Firestone guys before I'd bring a VW TDI to most of the Gulf Coast VW dealers.;)

I mean, an oil change, DSG fluid, bunch of filters? Plus, I'll bet the Firestone mechanics can read a manual.:p

It seems very unlikely that the Firestone place is going to have the specialized DSG tools. I would also be suspicious that they didn't bother or even know about the 507.00 spec oil.

I was also thinking that it might violate the 50,000 mile drive train warrantee.
Powertrain warranty expires at 60,000 miles and no, it wouldn't void it. I would be cautious though. As stated above, I doubt they know how to do the DSG service (assuming the car is DSG). I also wouldn't trust them with the fuel filter change and priming the housing.

If she's concerned about the cost you could have them do the oil change and then have a TDI specialist do the DSG service and fuel filter change. Even with the oil change, I'd look over their work after.

I allready recommended the closest Guru over in Long Beach. She said she would rather have it done in New Orleans while visiting the grandkids so I then said there was a list of gurus on this site. It is a DSG and that was what I was most concerned over. As far as cost I don't think she is precisely hurting for funds though she doesn't like to waste them either.

I wouldn't trust Firestone to service a hammer.

I did my own DSG service.. Wasn't difficult. Made a tool to refill it, and it went very easy. Seemingly took forever to refill, but nothing you can't do in your garage. Specialized DSG tools? Just search on here and you can save yourself about $80 and make your own too.

I'll find out if she looked over this site tomorrow night. She is about 60 and a divorcee so I don't think she'll be turning any wrenchs herself.
