Faulty fuel temperature sensor?

Hi All,

I'm wondering whether my fuel temperature sensor is faulty, and if it is what effects this would be having particularly with regards to fuel economy.

Car is a 2001 Passat 130PD TDi Sport, engine code AVF.

I've taken some vag-com logs of group 007, even before the engine is switched on (and after being parked up overnight) the fuel temp sensor is reading ~30 degrees whereas it should be reading the current ambient temperature (coolant sensor is reading 10.8 which is more like the current ambient temp here in the UK!).

Within about 12 minutes of normal driving fuel temperature reads ~70 to 71 degrees at which point the fuel cooling system kicks in. After about 30 mins the fuel temp maxs out at about 80 degrees.

Any thoughts? I'm wondering what affect this will have on mpg if the sensor is constantly reading 30 degrees above what it should!

Cheers,
Dave.
