it's called "gouging"rkskeet said:Here in State College, Pa D2 prices range from $2.65 to $2.75, $2.79 with the highest at $2.82.. Quite a spread.. RUG at most stations is $2.59.. I do have a question though being a new diesel owner.. Why is the spread for diesel fuel much greater than RUG??.. In most cases, RUG is gernerally priced the same or just a few cents difference at fuel stations in a given area.. Yet, diesel seems to have prices which vary more... Just interested if someone knows why this may be... Thanks..
The eastern two-thirds of the country is connected by pipelines, or close enough to seaports to be part of the same market. But the west coast is a totally separate market, so shortages or surpluses in the east do not have any real impact in the west. California is more affected by demand in Asia than by what happens east of the Mississippi.Thorne said:... why the large spread in prices nationally? Higher gasoline prices in CA are always justified / explained by higher / different mixes to meet emission standards -- but that doesn't apply to diesel. So why is it the highest here, and are there any "real" reasons for this cost structure?

Gila Bend is probably even cheaper -- anyone traveling west toward California, that is your last chance to get reasonably-priced fuel.BlueGraphite'10TDI said:Im loving the souther AZ prices... Diesel=2.29. Gas=2.49. Lol... I filled up on monday for 26 bucks!
TornadoRed said:Fuel prices are going up. Today's EIA report showed a sharp drop in refinery utilization, for good reason as the RBOB crack spread is barely above zero. Distillate inventories dropped slightly, they were expected to rise slightly. Gasoline inventories fell much more than expected.
In June and August, the December crude oil contract bumped into a ceiling at around the $76-77/barrel price. Today it has broken through that technical barrier and may rise rapidly toward $80, $85, $90 or higher. Distillates such as diesel will probably rise faster than gasoline, for seasonal factors.
So the $2.56-2.60 prices for diesel around here are likely to climb soon toward $2.75 and then $3.00. The bulls are on a rampage and, while Geitner's Treasury Department will talk about supporting the dollar, they do not actually plan to do a thing.

Yes, but you cannot take advantage of surpluses in other parts of the country. I think you are mostly self-sufficient.cswaner@peoplepc.com said:Just paid $2.699 for Diesel at Chevron Station. Utah has some of the highest gas/diesel prices in the country and we have many refineries as well.
At current exchange rates, that comes out to $3.79 USD per gallon.Karl640502 said:European prices are about a euro per litre at best (varies from 0,84 to 1,20), so about $5,67 per US gal.
So, when in Europe, bring your own diesel. Yes, it's heavily taxed.
On the drive from Denver to S.CAL , St. George & Richfield UT are the cheapest place to fill on the drive . Everywhere south & west of there is .20-.50 a gal more expensive for gas & diesel .TornadoRed said:Gila Bend is probably even cheaper -- anyone traveling west toward California, that is your last chance to get reasonably-priced fuel.
So what you are saying is that Europe is not as glamorous as we americans tend to believe?Karl640502 said:European prices are about a euro per litre at best (varies from 0,84 to 1,20), so about $5,67 per US gal.
