How accurate is your new fuel gauge?

Getting ready to break 4K miles on one 2011 Jetta TDI and 2K on the other. Although I am not a huge fan of the missing gauges, the one we have seems to be pretty accurate. Yesterday I pulled in for fuel and the trip computer claimed 25 miles left and the fill took right at 14 gallons. This has been the trend in both vehicles. Filling at the same station and same pump. Not bad.

Mine is spot on.

Does anyone know for sure the size of the tank? I read in the manual that it has a 14.5 and a 2 gal reserve. Does this mean in reality the tank it 16.5GAL?

I think that the 1.8 gallon reserve is part of the 14.5 gallon capacity. I do not know of anyone who has put in more than 15 gallons and that was filling it all the way to the top of the filler neck. Officially the fuel capacity is 55 liters, the 14.5 gallons is just a conversion to US measurements because apparently we Americans are not willing (or able) to convert to the metric system (pity!).

I strongly recommend not trying to find out the exact capacity of the tank. Running out of fuel is not a smart idea. IMHO, if you put in more than 14 gallons, you are asking for trouble (unless it is an emergency).

Don is correct in that the reserve is a part of the tanks overall capacity.

The most my tank would ever take was just over 13 gallons and I waited way to long to fill up on that one!

I have put in 57 liters and was not out of fuel

On my 2003 Jetta I removed the vent and have put in 16.6 gallons in after 927 miles, on the firsrt fill up on my 2011 I filled it to the brim, I don't see a vent to remove in the new car, but if there was I would have zero problem removing it.

As far as guage accuracy, I am seeing @325 miles on the first half tank, and about 200 on the last half. Havent run it down to less than a gallon left yet (only 2500 miles on it).

My last three fill-ups have been for over 15 gals. 15.11 / 57.1 liters(628 miles on tank), 15.087 / 57 liters (I think 602 miles on tank) and today 15.608 / 59 liters (637.1 miles on tank). At least two of those that I remember (this morning included) I filled up the neck. I have my receipt from this morning to prove it.
