Hello, this is my first post on this forum and I am new to TDI tuning so please don't be rude if I say something wrong or funny :D

We have a stupid law in my country, till the age of 24 you can only legally drive cars with max power of 80 kW. Due to this law I have an A3 8v 1.6 TDI with 105 HP. I am looking forward to maximising its output and I ask you guys to help me and advice me on which mods I should install. For now I removed the muffler and removed the stock air filter with a K&N which really makes no difference at all. I have also put Eibach pro spacers in the front and rear and those really make a difference in cornering. I am considering a remap, changing the Sline suspension with one from Eibach, installing an exhaust from Supersprint, putting a hybrid turbo. What worries me if I put the hybrid turbo, will my reliability change drastically.

What do you guys suggest? One more time, I am newbie in this so please don't be too hard on me :D

No point putting in a hybrid turbo, the GTC1244VZ has a limiting turbine (GTC12 is small!) See dyno sheet in my signature, this is maxed out without triggering the EGT limit.

Put on a GTC1549VZ for more power ;) 1.6TDI will be able to do 190bhp with stock fuelling and I don't think going any further than than on the stock bottom end is a wise move anyway.

So how much power do you think I will get with a turbo from a 2.0 TDI?

Ditch the K&N air filter. It will ruin your Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor and let too much dust and sand into the engine. The factory filter is more than adequate.

we have seen 170hp on the 1.6, the clutch's seem quite strong but most cars have been low miles.

they are a nice engine!!

What turbo was used?

Johan did one run with mine at 154bhp with stock turbo but it hit the max EGT limit in 5th gear so he adjusted it a bit down

I don't know, I really want to upgrade my turbo but I don't know which one is the best, reliability + power.

Find someone who uses gtd1449vz in 1.6tdi and you will have an answear. The other option is to upgrade non p&p turbo (mainfold welding need and air support outlet adaptation)

Enyone tried upgrade to (04L253010H 184KM GTD1449VZ) or (04L253010B, 04L253019Q, 04L253010K 150KM BM70B) or (03L253010F 170KM GTC1549VZ) on 1.6 TDI?

I have changed my 1.6TDI CAYB original KKK bv39 turbo to Garrett GTC1549VC. It is bolt on with Garrett oil feed and return line.I use vacuum actuator from GTC1244VZ.

Problem is that Vacuum actuator sensor voltage is wrong way. Maybe there is different software in KKK vs. Garrett cars?

Have anybody else changed 1.6TDI KKK to Garrett or other way?

I dont want to change back to KKK, biggest Bolt on KKK might be BV40D from 143hp 2.0TDI CR?

Maybe to use trick which i tryed on PPD, bw actuator on turbo, and fake garret actuator attached to ecu. You have opposite situation if i see well

Now i dont have CEL but it is laggy and ovetboosts quite bad when it finally boosts. I think i need that real position information. Not enough space to connect kkk actuator for just measuring vnt position.

I want to clarify couple things. 1.6TDI KKK -> Garrett GTC1549VZ upgrade is very easy if you use GTC1549VZ Actuator. GTC1244VZ actuator return signal is opposite, so it is not good for this upgrade.


1.6TDI GTC1244VZ to GTC1549VZ -> Use GTC1244VZ actuator

1.6TDI KKK BV39 to GTC1549VZ -> Use GTC1549VZ actuator

GTC1549VZ need oil feed and return pipe from that same charger.

GTC1549VZ for the 170 HP TDI is good but now superceded with GTD1449VZ from the CR184 CUNA engine. Very cheap from eBay!

I think that CR170 engine EGR is other side of engine than CR184. Sure it not big deal if you make EGR delete.
