Hi, I got a Jetta TDI 99.5 and i read here in the forums that it needs a chip to be tuned. The downside of that is that the ecu need to be sent to a tuning expert and there is no tuning via email like 2000-2005 and if you change something in the car you have to send again the ecu.

Those who have 99.5 have any complain with the tuning you have? I think i will go with Malone Tuning don't know much about Kerma TDI

Can i put a ecu from a newer mk4 with immo disabled or is not that simple because of the OBDII?

Once you get the car socketed then you can tune via email. You just need a tuner and a pair of blank chips.

If you want to upgrade ECU's to ImmoII (And tune via OBD port) you'll need to swap from a 80pin to 120pin harness/ECU/etc.

Mike @ TDTuning tuned my old 99.5, I suggest you get in contact with him. He can also provide you a ECU that's already socketed.

The OP is out of the CONUS. The rules change with Euro cars.

I usually find that European market cars hang onto ECU's longer. You're more likely to see a 2001 with a 99.5 style ECU than the other way around.

You can usually figure out what needs to be done by the part number. For example, a 99.5 Golf/Jetta has an ECU part number 038906018EB and a 2000 would be 038906012BD. The last 3 digits (018 and 012) give you a good indication of what it is with 012 usually being EDC15 (OBD flashable) and 018 being MSA15.7 (must be socketed). 019 is typically EDC15P (PD) and 016 is usually EDC16 (US BEW, BHW, BRM, etc.).

I have RocketChip in my 99.5, and as I understand it they are partnered with Digital Racing. If you find someone who has a good program for the older cars (mk3, etc) they probably have a good tune for the 99.5 as well :)
