Ok - you can see that I have 2 TDI's :
2000 New Beetle, now has a 5 speed manual, and RC2 (and some other performance). It's been estimated to have about 170% of stock torque / HP - which puts it in striking range of the Golf. Inspite of that - it WILL regularly hit 45-48 MPG driven sanely - I've even had a 50 MPG tank once.
2015 Golf SE with DSG, has had Phase I of the fix, and will be getting Phase 2 when available.
If you were going to drive both of these from Raleigh NC to Kansas City KS, towing a trailer with a 720 pound motorcycle (total trailer weight somewhere between 1500 and 2000 pounds) which one is better suited for the tow job ? The trailer will be one from U-Haul and we're doing it as a one-way.
I realize getting a rental truck to do the towing would be better.
The Beetle has 361,500 miles right now, the Golf is at about 36,000 miles. Both of them will need a hitch and the wiring added to it.
The owner's manual for the Golf states DO NOT TOW with the DSG - I'm figuring that if we use the Golf it would be in S or manual mode. We're not going to try to set any records getting there - we can take it easy, especially crossing the Appalachians.
