2014 TDI first VAGCOM scan. What did I get myself into?

I just picked up a new to me 2014 Jetta TDI. after a few days I found some things don't work on the car


1. Key Fob. The key less entry does not work. Red light on the fob lights up but nothing happens. Dealer took a look at it and said it will not program and I need a new key fob even if it looks like its working (I only have 1 key)

2. Bluetooth connects to my phone and Bluetooth icon shows up on the MFD only with the key on and radio off. As soon as I turn the radio on it disconnects. I pulled the radio and found it was replaced in 2016 so I'm guessing its not coded correctly.

I picked up a RossTech cable and my first scan looks like this.


I was shocked at all the errors.

Please help, its a mess!!

Did you buy this from a VW dealer? Is it CPO? If so take it back and let them handle it. If not.....

First save that scan and then rescan and clear all dtc's. Wait and see what shows back up. Those are what you should look at first. If you have a cable you bought from Ross tech I would ask them to check the scan and help.

Unfortunately this was not bought from a VW dealer and is no longer under warranty, so i'm on my own. The VAGCOM cable is not mine I have it on loan from a friend who works at a repair shop (the shop will not do programming jobs, I asked) so if anyone that has a car optioned near mine could post a scan or knows what's wrong that would be great.

You've got a Sound System on the network talking, but not checked on the list. And I'm not real sure this car has a Kessy (Access/Start).

Does the car have key in pocket push button start or stab key into steering column twistie start?

no KESSY, Just the normal key on the column on this car

Access Start (aka Kessy) is the key in pocket push button start system.

You need to remove 05-Acc/Start Auth. and 2B-Steer. Col. Lock from the CAN Gateway Installation List.

So who/what/when/where/why was the Gateway Installation List screwed with?

So the story of the car is.

1 owner before me traded in to VW dealer. Wholesale dealer picked it up and I think jump started it with the cables crossed because the BCM is from a junkyard and dated when it was with them and nothing was coded correctly.

I have a new ignition switch coming.

I will remove the 2 and post a new scan this afternoon after work today. Thanks for the help so far

Most of those faults look like when a ECM flash was done or a control module was unplugged. Most can be ignored or just cleared.

The Gateway incorrectly coded fault is because installed list and actual control modules present don't match. If a used BCM was installed that could be why some of installed list is wrong. Also why the remote doesn't work. Just occurred to me if coded wrong could also be reason for implausible ignition switch fault, NOT a bad ignition switch.

There is always a fault in Telematics (CarNet) for start prohibited. I just ignore that like the fault in memory seats when the button is off.

I would sort out the coding of BCM and Gateway to match what is installed in the car. Then program the remote. Clear all the DTCs, key off for a couple minutes so car goes to sleep mode, then start and run car for a minute, then rescan. That should fix the remote issue, and maybe fix the Bluetooth issue. Though I am curious about the telephone part number.

Ah, the Central Electronics (J519) has the CAN Gateway (J533) built into itself.... thus the screwy Gateway Installation List.

So was the coding from the original J519 copy/pasted to the replacement J519?

Is the battery fully charged? With new cars they are sensitive to low voltage. If the dealer had to jumped it did he also replace the battery?

battery is fully charged. Its my daily driver and about 9 degrees in the morning. it starts no problem.

put a new ignition switch in the car today and it fixed almost all my issues. still cant program the keyfob but everything else is working and the scan looks good
