I've had my 2015 Jetta TDI since October 2014, and I finally took it on a long road trip and have some real world MPG numbers on the new EA288 engine, and I'm not very impressed.
I just drove from DC to Miami and back and have been getting 600 mile tanks every time. I kept cruise control on 70 mph almost the whole time.
Each time I filled up, I put around 14.2 gallons in it. 600 miles / 14.2 gallons = 42.3 MPG.
The computer has been consistently showing "Average consumption: 48.0". That's a huge lie. The real MPG is 42 MPG.
Just curious, how is this MPG compared to the previous generation TDI engine?
