Dealer didn\'t want to take my money for MAF

They practically refused to sell me the 2.0 MAF for my TDI. They wanted 422.00 for the TDI version and 51.00 for the 2.0 version. I complained enough and they finally sold me the 2.0 MAF and guess what??? Our cars performance is back to where it should be!!!

We weren't getting a CEL, but the performance had went to crap. It felt like there was no turbo, it bogged after shifting etc. Now it's smooth as glass and as powerful as I remember.

Replacing the MAF was my second step in diagnosis. First was cleaning the intake. Ours was clogged down to the size of a quarter or less after only 70,000 miles.

Next up is to clean the intercooler and then bypass the PCV and "fix" the EGR.

Isn't $422 a bit steep ? I tought the going price was around $230.

$450 at Carl Gregory VW in Columbus Georgia. I checked on it today. I feel that that is including a steep profit margin.

I had to give my dealer a gasser serial number before they would sell me the 2.0 maf. It has been in for 40k klmtrs now, runs like a charm, more power than it ever had, lost about 8 to 10% mileage, but it will rocket to the redline in the first 4 gears, scared to try that in 5th. I wouldnt switch back to a tdi maf even if it was free..

For those of you who don't know dealerships, they earn their real money off the backend (parts and service). In fact, a really well-run dealership will be able to cover all costs without ANY profits from the frontend (sales).
