BEW rebuild - Use ALH pistons?

So my Jetta's been consuming oil forever at a pretty consistent rate until now, went from 1L per 3500km to 1L per 2000-2500km recently. Now since I've got another car to drive for a while I figured I might pull the head and see what's been going on. But I'm afraid of what I might find, I'm betting on a scored cylinder or 2 since it seems pretty common on these judging by all the engines I've see at wreckers.

So my question is, since nobody makes oversized BEW pistons, could I use oversized ALH's without issues if I had to?

Anyone done it? Or is sleeving the best option?

The scored cyls were probably from botched timing belt jobs or blown turbos.
How do you know the oil isn't leaking from the turbo? Check that first.
If it's close to timing belt time then pull off the head and do guides/seals if the bores look OK.
