Rodents
I had the same problem with rodents, the insulation on the wires is made with soy. I wrapped ¼" hardware cloth around the wires and secured it tightly. I wrapped electrical tape where the hardware cloth would rub on the wires. I have had no problems in over two years.

Called 30 dealers and finally found and bought a 2015 Golf SW manual S in Denver. Every dealer I talked to was selling for MSRP and offered the 5K off if financed. But, every car I asked about had a deposit on it already except the one I bought as the dealer would not take a deposit as he had heard someone was buying up hundreds of new stick-shift TDI's for later sale. Paperwork showed oil/filter change plus new battery, one new wiper, and oil-level sensor wiring repaired due to rodent damage. Pick up the car in 2 weeks and driving 2 days to get it home. Hopefully no rodents along for the ride.
