Transmission - All Gear Lights On

About a month ago I noticed occasional rough shifting into low gears... very intermittent. Then came the slight lurch after stopping quickly. Today I hit the brakes on the highway as the bonehead on front of me stopped to cut across the median. When I accelerated, there was what felt like slipping. Then I noticed all the gears were illuminated on the dashboard (photo attached in case that seems confusing) . The car was revving high and not shifting to a higher gear. I exited, tuned off the car and back on and all was normal.

I was suspecting low fluid and needed to get to the shop to see if there is a leak and to check the level. Now I am thinking electrical issue. It is a 2005 TDI Wagon. I had a rebuilt transmission installed about 80K miles ago.

Anyone experience this?

Your transmission dropped into limp mode. Check your transmission control module for moisture. It's under the carpet on the RH side. Pull the fault codes and start diagnosing!

If it makes you feel better, mine is stuck in limp.

Yes - scan it and go from there. If it felt like it was slipping you probably need another rebuild.

Limp defaults the car to 3rd, no? Would feel like slip from a start...

4th or 5th, pretty sure it is 4th though.

OBD works, need to start there.
