B5.5 Passat wagon. Best tires for economy?

I'm going to be replacing tires on my new Passat, and have seen that there is a big difference that can be made by tires... I have 17" rims but all the tires are mismatched. What's the best fuel economy tires?

We had Conti Pure Contacts on our B5.5 wagon and they were great, 16" though.

tire rack reviews can be helpful
My previous tires were Pirelli P7 and they were long lasting, smooth, and LRR. Curently have Pirelli P4 for a little more winter capability. FE seems the same, but not quite as smooth as P7s. I use TR to narrow my choices and then shop for the best value.

I have p4s on my Jetta. I have liked them a lot.

IMO you can't beat the General, General Tire that is. Owned by Conti. Altimax Arctic 12 for winter and RT43 for spring, summer and fall. Excellent touring tire. Fantastic in the rain, good feedback when pushed and grippy enough. If you catch a sale, you get a free tire.
