My car has 36k miles and looks to me like the best option is to hold the car to the end of the buyback period when it will have the least Fair Market Value. If I take the buyback price (much more than 6spd tdi passat is worth) why would I not then go to the dealer and buyback my car at what it is worth after I turn it in, in fact minutes after I turn it in? The car has been good, anyone have a suggested real value in August of 2018 of a TDI 6spd car with say 50k miles by then? It is an SE package, but what are the flaws in this plan, I am sure that there are some?

Good question.

One risk (if you really want the car) the dealer (or maybe VW) is in control of your car. Where is goes, the selling price, etc.

If you are 100% sure you wish to own it in the future, the "fix" is the way to go.

One point to keep in mind is the TT&L if you are given a good choice to re-own it at a price you wish to pay.

In Okieville, it is about 4% with all the fees. Your state TT&L fees? More? Less?

Only issue I have with the "fix" is the 2/3 up front then wait for the last 1/3

BTW, I am not all that up to date on your particular car regarding the fix.

Good luck.

Because you cannot buy it back from dealership...

Dealers are allowed to sell 2015 cars that went back to VW, fixed and listed for sale by VW for dealers.

2014s are not being sold yet after buybacks. You MIGHT be able to find it for sale after a few months, but good luck with that.

Buyback is NOT trade in to the dealer. They are not dealers property.

SWS - if you REALLY want to keep YOUR car, wait for the fix for the Gen2 Passats to be available. it shouldn't take VWAG long to get something out for everybody to use.

So far, there is no fix available for manual transmission Passats. If you let it go for buyback, it will not be fixed and resold (unless a fix gets approved).
