Just want to say - It works :)

I had 1.9 ALH in Mk2 body, previous tune was 11mm pump, gives 17,8 Soi with 89% cycle, 0,320 nozzles, ColtCams, ARL pistons +H-Beam, Big Cooler, 2,5" in and Out, and GTB2271 11 blade Turbo. Drives Crazy enough.
But... i was wonder to get out of VNT and make some old-style, without N75 etc. Yap, Waste-Gate are laggy, but they sound amazing, and durable, and just i want some new experience. So, i begin to making some WG turbo with will be fine for 1.9 TDI displacement, and gives around 220-250 HP.
I choose TD04HL family for base turbo, and fit it with 68mm compressor wheel. Balanced up to 160000rpm, so it will give me 2 bars boost without cracking. Take Adjustable WG actuator, put in 1.6 bar spring and make ecu map changes for nearly smoke-free.
Folks, what can i say - it's fun. It runs now with 1,61-1,63 boost till redline, but i put in more fuel with this 1,63 bar boost than with GTB2260VK when had it in car, and even more, than i can burn with 1.6 boost from BMW GTB2271. The goal is better exhaust, less restriction, because of non VNT i think.

So, I drive 1.63 Bar now, and then take 1,85.bar spring. Will see how much diesel can i burn with this.

This setup are not so fast like VNT, but i like it. This mk2 kicks out all the sh*t from your head when you drive it, and adds some happiness to your life.

Cheers.

I already have 68mm compressor Wheel.
About 49/56 turbine - will not it be more laggy? Or 12 blades compensate this factor?

My buddy runs a td05 16g on his 2.0pd daily not much boost before 3000rpm but it makes 45psi pulls very good

11MM Pump, 18-BTDC 5300Rpm

Put in 9-Blade shaft. (little bit more laggy than 12-blade, but Exhaust FLow better and EMP are more nice)

1.8 Bar with 4.19V on Pump

It's so funny to drive it, that i want more now. But the Project was not @Power@, project was compact No-Vane turbo with underhood N75 Delete and almost smoke-free setup. With 15/1 AR and middle smoke level it goes better to spool, no doubt. But i decidet to spool it with a little bit retardet Timing on low&mid Load and rpm. Exhaust became hotter, and it done the deal greatly.

What size turbine housing (cm^2) are you running?

The Holset HE221W is an 11-blade clipped version of the TD04HL turbine wheel and that turbo is way too laggy on these engines. A smaller more responsive turbo would still be able to deliver the 220-250hp you want (as long as we are talking bhp, not whp)

Have you dynoed this setup?
