Safe mode 1 no code

I recently traded an aftermarket head unit for a factory monsoon one, but the previous owner cannot find the safe code for the unit. VW quotes me at the job taking anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, at $105 an hour. is there some other way i can get the code for the head unit?

Look online. There are places that charge $25.00 to retrieve the radio code. You send the info they need and they email you the code. Takes a day or two.
