Hello all

I replaced my CS sensor with a new one 2 months ago. I got a Febi from ECS Tuning. Now, I am getting the same code again (P3007) with no signal.

Did I buy a cheap part or did something cause it to go bad???? I am trying to diagnose the issue. It is not hard to replace. The thing is, the engine still runs fairly well. Perhaps an extra few cranks to get it to start. Does anyone know the specs for a CS sensor???? I have the Bentley manuals and cannot find too much info on it.

If I do need a new sensor and this one is bad........should I spend the money and go OEM?????

thanks in advance to a great group!!!

Camshaft position code, and an extra few cranks to start.

That can mean the timing belt has slipped by a tooth. The engine may still run normally, until it slips a bit further.

The code you would get in this case is "Implausible signal" or something to that effect.

I would suggest you inspect the entire length of the timing belt for missing teeth. Hopefully it's just a bad sensor, but you can't be too careful with this.

Is this the code that pops up when the crank sensor is bad (maybe just the VE)? Check the crank sensor wires.

That code actually may be nothing more than a faulty sensor, now that I've looked this up. Or bad wiring. It's the "implausible signal" code that you really don't want to see. Probably need VCDS to see that one though. Not sure if a generic scanner can read that. (I don't know what you're using)

From Ross-Tech site:
19463/P3007/012295 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): No Signal

Possible Symptoms
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
Possible Causes
Fuse(s) faulty
Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty
Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty
Possible Solutions
Check Fuse(s)
Check Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
Check/Replace Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)

Is there a fuse for this sensor????

I am only using the OBD Eleven scanner tool. I will purchase the VAG-COM soon. It is on my list

Well, I did order a new sensor. This time it is an OEM one. The other one is a Febi.

We'll see...........

I had the same experience with my cam sensor when I replaced a perfectly good OEM sensor with one from a trusted vendor. The new sensor did not have any markings so I don't know the brand. A dealer replacement was the cure.

I too was able to get rid of this with a real deal VW sensor after trying a cheapy.

It's a simple hall sensor, similar to the crank sensor, I don't know why they fail so much or why non-OEM's don't work, they are pretty simple, no moving parts...

The crank sensor has a magnet at the very tip; more of an induction type device.

I read somewhere that when the camshaft position sensor fails, it defaults to the crankshaft sensor. It may be a little harder to start. That is a little longer to crank, but nothing too serious.

Anyways, I have it ordered. It should be here next week. I will put it in and post what has gone on.

Did you order a new grommet as well? They tend to fall apart due to age.

I have not ordered a grommet. When I replaced it with the lastnine, it was stil pretty flexible. I will get one though. Thanks for the advice :)

Is there a fuse for this sensor????
The sensor connects to the ECU, no connection for power.

Does the OBD Eleven list the engine blocks?
Block 2 has engine speed.

Try wiggling the wires in the area of the plus to see if it shows a loss of speed.
Do you see any issues with the tach going down the road?

There is not any issues with the tachometer. Seems to run fine, like the way it has for a while. Mileage is a smidge down, but that could be because of the intake. I need to check that. A little harder to start sometimes when it is warm. I deliver pizza in the evening for some extra $$$. I am only getting about 37mpg, but that is all stop and go..... or should I say ...... GO!!!!!! :) I have a lead foot...........

Well.... got the new OEM sensor and installed it. Cleared the code with my OBD11. Seems to start a little better. Time will tell.

I will post a final in about a week roughly, after I see how it runs.

Final post here on this thread..........

After several days and lots of driving, I think the OEM actually works better that the aftermarket sensor. It starts up on the first cylinder, and not nearly as many cranks after it gets warmed up. So......... all is better :)

The moral of this thread is this.............. go with OEM.
