Howdy all!
I have a Canadian 1997 vw jetta with a 1.9 AAZ. When i got the car it had a bunch of relays rolling around on the floor and i found some crispy wires hiding behind the relay panel. Can anyone tell me what they are for? Is that why my dash isnt working? Is this a common problem?

i think the tachometer worked for a little then quit again.

That panel is seriously messed up.

Here is what the manual says should be there.

1 Air Conditioning 13
2 Rear Wiper/Wash 72
3 ECM power supply 109 Not Used With AAZ
4 Load Reduction 18
5 Open
6 Emergency Flasher 21
7 Open
8 Washer/Wiper 19 or 99
9 Seat Belt warning 4 or 29
10 Fog Light Relay
11 Horn 53
12 Glow Plug 102 or 104
13 O2 Sensor (Gas Only)
14 Park/Neutral 150

My Golf had a 129 relay in position 15, 36 in position 17 and 94 in position 18.

173 is a DRL relay.

The tachometer gets its signal from the alternator W terminal.
