Hey Guys, I need some help. I work for a Honda dealer and we just took in a 2006 VW Beetle TDI with about 81K on the clock.. The car was running great when we looked at it on Tuesday, but now the customer has brought the car in today (Thursday), and its running like crap and blowing all kinds of black smoke. Its knocking when under light throttle (sound like spark knock on gas motor), but runs great when the turbo kicks in although it puts out a TON OF SMOKE.. This is the full story.. The car has a WVO conversion, and the customer who lives in Indiana has a vacation home on Hilton Head where we are located. Back in early July the customer drove down, and started having issues. Thinking he could make it back to Indiana he started to drive home.. He broke down in Columbia SC about 2 hrs away and the car was towed to the local VW dealer there. At that point the Vegi oil kit was disconnected and the dealer replaced a whole bunch of parts including 2 fuel injectors, a fuel pump, fuel filter (twice), a o2 sensor, and some more stuff. All and all the repair cost $3400, over almost 2 months. The dealer test drove the car almost 700 miles.. All was OK, so the customer picked the car up and drove back to Hilton Head, where we saw the car on Tuesday.. We took the car to a local VW mechanic today, and he feels another injector is bad (stuck open). It’s being caused by the WVO even though the kit is completely disconnected. His recommendations is to REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM !! I also talked with the dealer who did the work on the car already, and he said they cleaned out the entire fuel system (flushed the lies, drained and filled the fuel tank), except for the two remaining injectors which they cleaned.. They feel if I replaced the two old injectors I should be back in business without a problem. I know this conversion is fairly common, and I don’t understand why it would still be causing problems if it’s disconnected. What are your guys thoughts??
