Only because it's Prothe, but it'll work. Search and make your decision.

In other words, this seller is "prothe" and has a bad rep?

I just need the parts. Assume he just resells them eh?

I actually bought another TDI, 03 Jetta. Need to fix this leak on the 98 before I put it up for sale.

the picture on the front of the package is funny. Guess it means only real mechanics should be doing this job!

most of us take this kit and the pump to a specialist, i doubt the main seal is included in kit, it wasnt for mine. then again strike that from the record, im not of the opinion prothe parts and other more reputable part sources have a lot in common. parts place lists the 'same' bosch kit for the same price, prob a more reliable source, you can also find the kit(the bosch one) ranging from ~$14, +shipping. thats minus the tool, thats useful as well. if diesel geek has it, whats a few bucks?

Prothe is a scumbag who sells items of dubious quality.

The problem occurs when he sells critical parts like timing belts, turbos etc. and they fail.

He hasn't stood behind any of his failed products or the damage caused, other than to replace the "defective" part.

After a broken timing belt and the costs incurred to repair the engine, would you really use a replacement belt from him.

There are numerous examples of these situations on the forums.

Many here refuse to do any business with him because of the above. Others are content to buy from him and support his shady business.

Your call.

I agree the price up front is tempting, and I too have paid dearly for the questionable quality of his parts. Be aware he goes by numerous names besides Prothe.

I wouldn't bother with the Prothe kits, there are lots of other vendors online who sell legitimate seal kits.

Bosch does not sell the driveshaft seal with the kit, you have to buy separately.

The tdi pumps are arguably one of the easiest to reseal, at least that I've ever done. There's no futzing with the tiny LDA o-ring like with mechanical pumps.

Granted, post-install setup is tricky with tdi but you get used to it.

Sadly, none anymore
Looks like a legit Bosch parts kit but why buy from a shade ball when you can support a reputable vendor?
