I have an 02J transmission with .681 5th gear and Peloquin TBD already installed. I have moved to a 6 speed DRW transmission.
If I recall correctly, the 5th gear that's in there now has 1 chipped tooth, which does not affect performance or durability. 1st/2nd gear sychros may have some wear, but I was having the same problem with the new transmission until I adjusted the gear box itself, so I'm not sure there ever was a problem with the sychros.
This transmission is as beefed up version of the stock 02J. The output shaft is actually from a Passat, along with the associated parts required to make it fit. This was done to prevent the dreaded stripping of the shaft with low geared 5th gears. I had stripped two output shafts with my .653 gears, and upon rebuilding the transmission this time, some parts from a 150 HP Passat were used to strengthen the whole system.
So what you get:
Beefier than stock 02J transmission
Peloquin Torque Biasing Differential already installed (If you've never driven a car with a TBD, once you do, you'll never drive one without it again.)
Associated parts that I take off and don't need for the 02M DRW.
Depending on what kind of deal you want:
VR6 Clutch with 10# Autotech lightweight flywheel
The TBD goes for more than $800 alone, plus usually another $400 to install if you don't do it yourself. I'd like to get $1400+shipping for everything, but I'm a bit flexible and am willing to mix and match parts to some extent. Parts are located in the Kansas City area, local pickup will always be welcome. I could potentially deliver a reasonable distance if you pay gas + time, since my beatup old pickup is not exactly gas milage friendly, although I can probably put it all in the Jetta. Certainly open to offers if you just want the clutch/flywheel or just the transmission.
