Power Kick-out

My 2000 TDI runs well, but quite regularly it loses power while driving. The service engine light comes on and the DTC P1557 shows up on my scan tool. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution?

If the power comes back after restarting the engine do a search for limp mode, also do a google search of the code for more info on it.

Could be sticking VNT veins. Look for CanadianGrizzly, he has a good post (I think link in his signature) on Limp mode diagnosis. As Seatman said, if, when the limp mode comes in, you quickly cycle the key to the Off position, then turn back on and the power is restored, this is classic Limp. The troubleshooting for "overboost" should be covered in the Limp diagnostic thread.
