so trying to avoid problems i decided to put in a VW crank gear, just got it today, the one i had in i think i got it from autohausaz, instead of a 'D' it had a key, dont know if it was for a 1.6 and they mistook it, and shipped me the wrong part. its been a while but as im not sure if the 1.6 key was smaller, or that size. soo, i put gear in, got crank bolt it, from autohausaz as well, iirc. gotta be cheap, and costed cheap. not sure. so i went to crank it down, had the 66ftlbs on it, went to stretch it, well in my rough estimate, i figured id get the 1/4 turn on it, roughly, as cannt be 100% sure, and as i dont have crank locked, using 5th and brake, id put a little, some more on it, hey the torque, tension has to travel from bolt im tightening, all the way down drivetrain, to brakes, and technically it has to come back. so a little more turn, ooh about 1/16 aprox, should do it, and be more secure. and the last bolt i did it on, successfully. well this bolt, i had about the 1/4 turn on it, and getting the next little, some turn on it was tough, all of a sudden it turned, i mean i pushed it, and it seems i broke the stretch. as i recall the older style of bolt, back a few years ago, the book called for 1/4 stretch turn, i believe with the same bolt some books may have called for 1/2 turn, thought the bolt would handle a little extra turn. looks like i have to go back in parts bin and pull out another bolt and get the 1/4aprox turn on it, and thats it, stop there.
