Bew loss in power then no start

So sorry to bother everyone but I’m looking at a 2005 beetle that I was told has turbo problems but went to look at it and he said it lost power one day drove it for a few weeks then one day shut it off and no start no crack no click gauges all come on but nothing. He also had no codes to back up the turbo failure. So is it related or Is the problem actually a timing belt/ cam motor has 176,000 miles

Try and rotate the engine from the crank bolt. If it turns over then it might be ok. Then check timing marks. A scan for codes should be the first step though.
