Messing with the Air Flow Meter Reading for tuning and to help combat soot? Possible?

I know you can change settings via the map or VAG settings regarding the AFM (I may be wrong)... and also there is a cheap DIY mod (can't remember what it was now).

Can anyone confirm what the advantages are of messing with the AFM readings regarding tuning and soot would be?

Get real tuning, you don't know what you miss until you drive.
tweak is just tweak, and you would not get real power, beside if enrich the system you just waste fuel and blow smoke if you succeed but no real gain.

I've got a pro remap if thats what your talking about?

Either way that does not answer the question...

I want to know the effects on the ECU management when playing with the AFM reading...
