On a road trip from IL to the Gulf, picked up a CEL in Mobile. Got here to Chattanooga before I could use VCDS:
2 Faults Found:
009688 - ROD - Unknown faultcode

009687 - ROD - Unknown faultcode

The VCDS isn’t updated, but by asking Ross-Tech I discovered they relate to the DEF tank temperature sensor. Not going to lose any sleep over this one, but it probably means I’ll set the buyback appointment sooner rather than later, since our new car search is about complete in any case.

ouch, but not uncommon.

How many miles on the car? I believe they extended the warranty on the pump/sensor.

About 76K; car was purchased new in July ‘13. I’ve got an extended warranty, but I remember it being for the pump, not sure if it includes the temp sensor.

I believe it's all one unit, could be wrong but can't hurt to ask before sticking a fork in the ride.

Yep I bought the 2015 Passat TDI few weeks ago, few days later CEL came on and I checked it out wih my VCDS, its the danged DEF heater tank. Was down for 2-3 days and got it back. Told stealership to please have one readily in stock no matter what. I doubt they will listen.

FYI - he is correct, its one whole unit.

FYI may not be the same on a Gen2 vs a Gen3, the injector moved on those gen3 rides.

On the Gen 2 cars (2012-2014 Passat), the adblue heater and pump are one unit that is replaceable in the tank.

On the Gen 3 cars (2015 Passat, Jetta, Beetle, Golf), the adblue heater and pump are built into the tank and must be replaced as a whole unit.
