I have an 06 with a GQQ transmission at 225k miles. The trans lost 5th gear and sent metal through everything, it then got locked in 4th gear. I've been shopping for transmissions, and the GQQ transmissions are pretty rare and kinda spendy for a decent one. I've found a low mileage EBJ for a nice price, and seen the ratio's are close. My only issue is before I spend the money on it, will everything bolt up between the mk4 trans and my mk5 trans. Shift tower the same? mounts?

I had to put a mk4 early transmission in my 2005.5 last month. The shift tower is different, and you'll have to rig up a mounting for the cable bracket unless the mk4 one works.

So all in all, how much time, trouble was that to do?
I'm in the same boat as you were. Need a good used trans for my 06 manual tdi jetta.
Thank you!

Seems to be a familiar thing we're hearing too - Mk5 transmissions are dropping like flies and there aren't any cores. :-/
