With the engine at operating temperature, shut it off and let it set for 3 minutes +/-.

Pull the dipstick and wipe it clean.

Reinsert dipstick all the way into the engine.

Pull the dipstick again and lay it on a paper towel held in your other hand.

The oil will wet the paper towel instantly and you will be able to see where

the oil level was with relation to the marks on the dipstick.

I flattened one side of my dipstick on a sanding belt and then spray painted it yellow with regular krylon spray paint. The yellow really helps and has lasted about 35k miles to date.

If you look closely, there are words on the stick (I honesty can't remember what the top says). I always just wipe the stick, note the words, reinsert, and verify I can't read the words cuz the oil is covering them. Sounds corny but it's quickest and easiest for me.
