I have a 2004 TDI Jetta and over the last week I have been getting some different reouts from my lights. The yellow (MIL) light is on most of the time. I understand that I could get this light if the car is started before the glow pulg light went out. Now it is on almost all the time. Also, when I start driving the first few minutes the red (Generator) blicks maybe 4/5 times. It seems to blink when I accelerate and let off on the gas.

I have checked the following:
  • battery connections
  • alternator/generator is being charged
Any insight on where or what I should be next would be helpful.

The MIL will not be set if you start before waiting for the glow lamp to turn off. You will have to read the fault memory to know what the problem is.

The alternator pulley is probably bad. Take the belt off and spin the pulley by hand. It should drive the alternator in the forward direction, and spin freely in the reverse direction. It should not slip in the forward direction.
