2015 Golf - "Check License Plate light"

Ok, so for a while now, I get this message in the dash panel when the night outside lights are supposed to come on. They ARE on, and when I had the car at a VW dealer for DSG gear selector recall - I had them look at this as well (no charge). They replaced the bulbs but we are still getting this message. Any ideas as to what's causing it and how to fix ? The message isn't preventing the car from running, just a bit annoying....

did they really replace them? mine when i put led's i got a bulb out notification

I get this as well on my '11 Golf

My cheap LED plate lights triggered the warning too. They may be three times brighter, but they don't draw enough juice to satisfy the CAN system.

I got this the other day on my car too - after taking a really sharp turn on a bumpy road. Figured it was due to my driving and possibly salt on the terminals (it’s winter in Wisconsin).
It went away and hasn’t come back.


Maybe they’re just cheap ones. Hmm.
