i got an r32 airbox for a pretty good price at the junkyard :D but maf was already gone. i've read that you want to switch the tdi maf element into the new housing for accurate readings anyways, so does anyone foresee a problem buying a $30 chinese knockoff r32 maf sensor on ebay just for the housing and swapping the element for the genuine tdi one?

If the housing is a different size than original, then it will not ever be accurate to what is defined in the ecu. It's a function of air flow per diameter/radius of the tube it is in.
