Gasser 01M swap to TDI?

Question - Can I use the 01m from my 1999 New Beetle gasser in my 2003 Jetta TDI? The Beetle has 80K and shifts flawlessly. The TDI 01m has over 200K and is getting tired. Any suggestion appreciated. I want to think an 01M is and 01M lol. Also is 0 as in ZERO 1M, or O as in Otter 1M?

There are just too many to list....
No, the gearing is all wrong. I'd think this would be obvious if you own both, ever notice how high the engine is spinning on the highway on your '99? :) I think at 80 there is about a 1000 RPM difference!

And it is ZERO-ONE-M, 01M.

Define "getting tired". It may benefit from a valve body and new fluid.

OK, so the primary difference is 4th gear. The gasser beetle is .679. The TDI is .742. Not sure what this means? the gasser turns .679 times while the diesel turns .742 times per revolution of the drive gear???? If so wouldn't the beetle tranny turn less engine RPMs per xMPH than the diesel? Or am I completely backwards and full of crap lol?

seal and busing on torque converter blew and he kept driving. have changed out a fluid 2X since replacing the torque.

does this gearing chart make sense?

You are right about 4th gear, but those are the transmission gears. What are the final drive ratios?

I'm not saying it'll work, just pointing out you seem to be focusing on the transmission gearing and there's more to it than that.

Problem is in BOLD That is the final drive ratio.

FYI the computer will see the 4th gear ratio difference, interpret it as a slip and go to limp mode.

Wont work. Just find a tdi trans, get a rebuild, or convert to manual.

I understand the 3 light switch method. But you wouldn't have any pressure control. Shifts would be harsh and abusive. Probably would break some of the trans componants within a few hundred miles of driving.

The guy from the video will also probably break some stuff, although a 4L80/E is much more stout than a 01m.
