If I had a bad motor mount, how would I know it. I believe there are three: tranny side, timing belt side, and bottom on the tranny.

open the hood, have someone stand BESIDE the car as you let the cluch out in foward and reverse.. if the engine jumps up in the front going in reverse and you hear a clunk, the motor mount is bad,, if the engine lifts up in the rear and you hear a clunk when letting out the clutch going forward, the mount could be bad..

on the older dubs, the front mount went bad first.. dont know why...

Thanks for the test.

I am still wondering how this would feel driving down the interstate, at idle, e.g. real world driving, how would it feel if the motor mounts are messed up?

Thanks,
Brian

if it was really bad, the shifter can start to move with the motor. example: it will juimp when either coming on or off the throttle. in my toyota, when an engine mount went bad you could feel the engine rocking and hear it banging around.
