Engine Life if taken care of

I am looking at a 96 passat TDI with 200,000 mile and they say it was taken care of with all of the timing belt changes and oil changes ect. Are these a 300,000 engine or more if taken care of?

what story do the service records tell? Has this car been cared for? Do the written receipts indicate a diligent owner(s)? What engine oils have been used, etc.?

Yes. But this doesn't mean I wouldn't use the 'high' mileage as a bargaining point. I'd also have a qualified person do a compression test/leakdown test on the motor and check how much wobble is on the turbo shaft, etc. Basically give it a good going over, and request all possible service records....

I got $3000 off on the asking price of my 75,000 mile Jetta when I bought it, complaining about the high mileage Good thing, too, because I had to do a lot of work on it in the first year. My car's previous owner had not been good to it

High mileage car never scared me... as long as nothing have been neglected of course!

We trust our "high" mileage cars!!

Just be sure of it's history!
