My AC was not cooling and I put a gauge on the low side and it was reading high. I had heard that if it is running higher that normal pressure on the low side that make sure the compressor is running, because the pressure is high when the compressor isn't working.
When I threw the switch, I did not hear the tell-tale click when the compressor clicks on. I got a visual on the clutch and couldn't believe what I thought I was seeing.
The center of the compressor pulley was hollow (where a clutch normally is) with a threaded center post and no nut.
I have not gotten under the car and removed the pan yet to see if there is a dangling clutch from the wires or if it is ripped out and gone forever.
Is this a freak accident or is this something that you guys have seen before?
Should I replace the whole compressor or just the clutch assembly?
