We bought another 2004 Jetta TDI wagon over the weekend.
The car is immaculate, every part looks new.and perfect.

BUT the one issue is that only the drivers door won't lock with the remote.
I figured it was the micro switch misbehaving, I opened up the door and removed the latch, It was as clean as everything else on this car, the switch was perfect, I tested it with a multi-meter and before I closed up the door I checked the VAGCOM it showed the door open/closed as I latched and opened the latch.

Still won't lock with remote, then I noticed it does lock fine when you get to 10MPH and also with the inside switch. Just not from either remote.
It unlocks fine and all the other doors lock when you click the remote.

When I lock with the remote, the horn toots and the led on the door blinks normally, if I open the door the alarm goes off. So it thinks it's locked.

Where do I look now? the door computer in the window motor?
Or the Central Conv. computer?
I don't know where the Central Conv. is located or what is involved in changing it.

Got time to run the VAGCOM again and this time I saved the codes.

2 Faults Found: 01331 - Door Control Module; Driver Side (J386)
49-10 - No Communications - Intermittent
00928 - Locking Module for Central Locking; Front Driver Side (F220)
27-00 - Implausible Signal
What is the Door Control Module? is that the window motor or the lock module.
Also I obviously have to check for broken wires in the door jam flex point..

Check the wiring harness between the door and the "A" pillar for chafed wires. Is your car a Mark 4 or Mark 5? Early Mark 5's had a problem with the door wiring harness being shorter than it should be leading to wires chafing between the door and the "A" pillar and intermittently shorting out causing all kinds of problems with how the car locked.

I finally found it by just looking at every possible input on the VAGCOM.
It was the internal switch inside the door module that indicated if it was locked.
Not the normal one that says if it is closed.
As soon as that was fixed it all works again.
